I’ve been involved in building websites / Internet Marketing since the late 1990′s. My first foray into the online world was with eBay. No one believed I’d be able to do it, but I was able to earn a 6 figure income on eBay for 2-3 years by selling – are you ready for it – matchbook covers! You know – the nearly extinct matchbooks you used to be able to find at every restaurant or bar? Yep, those things! Funny thing – the really old ones from back in the 1930′s – 1950′s can be VERY valuable to the right person. Used to drive around the country buying collections and selling them on eBay and on my own website.
I learned a ton about marketing on the Internet back in those days and haven’t stopped learning to this day. I’m always learning new things and applying the new found knowledge to websites I build and promote. From earning an income via Adsense, Affiliate Marketing, How To courses I’ve sold, Adwords (spending upwards of $30k a MONTH several years ago), Dropshipping, etc., etc. So far, the ongoing education has paid off and I expect it to for some time to come.
Oh sure, I did have a bit of background in marketing to begin with, having been an owner operator of a number of McDonald’s Restaurants back in the 80′s and 90′s. Can’t get a much better education in marketing than being a franchisee for one of the most successful companies in the world. And to think it all started out as a small business in San Bernardino, CA.
Having a strong background in business – especially one that is so dependant on customer service – has really helped me build my Internet businesses over the past twenty years. Focusing on providing my customers / clients with a high quality product or service, coupled with my understanding of how important it is to take care of your customers has allowed me to enjoy many successes over the years. Without the attention to either area, I’d never have made it in any business – either offline or online.
